TYPE OF MARTIAL ART TAUGHT AT SAMA

We teach a progressive martial arts system. To contrast, most schools in the area teach a classical type of martial art such as Karate or Tae Kwon Do. While there is a lot of value in the those styles, we teach a system that we feel is geared more towards to today’s self defense environment.

The core of our system is Kickboxing and Kajukenbo Karate. Kickboxing utilizes the practioners natural weapons, knees, elbows, kicks and punches. Kajukenbo Karate is taught to intermediate and advanced students. Kajukenbo is a self defense system developed in the late 40’s in Hawaii. Kajukenbo is a blend of Karate, Judo, Jujitsu and Kung-Fu. Care is taken to teach students the proper form and body mechanics to eliminate injuries while training and gain maximum effectiveness.

The systems are easy to learn and place emphasis on physical conditioning, self defense, and cardiovascular benefits. Our system also uses submission grappling, so that our students become more comfortable in self defense situations on the ground using positioning, joint locks and chokes to defend ones self. Lastly, our system also incorporates the Filipino Martial Arts, which is a highly sophisticated and comprehensive martial arts. It’s based on multiple attackers and while it utilizes weapons such as the sticks and daggers it ultimately is an empty handed system. Filipino Martial Arts are all family systems. The Family systems taught here are Modern Arnis and Atienza Kali.
